Kavitha Sreeharsha is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Global Freedom Center, the only organization focused solely on human trafficking training and technical assistance. Since she began her practice as an anti-trafficking attorney in 2000, she has contemplated and works towards solutions that create the global shift necessary to meaningfully impact anti-trafficking efforts.She seeks big solutions for big problems, which is where the Global Freedom Center’s work begins, shrinking the gap between the 27 million enslaved and the less than 1% who are identified and have access to freedom. Kavitha designs and delivers the Center’s in-person tailored trainings and groundbreaking e-learning designed both for clients and soon publicly-facing.Prior to Global Freedom Center, Kavitha served in the Civil Rights Division of the US Department of Justice. She also worked at Legal Momentum where her policy drafting and advocacy is now reflected in the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, the cornerstone U.S. anti-trafficking law. She began her career at Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach, where she helped form the first anti-trafficking project in Northern California and was among the earliest anti-trafficking practitioners in the U.S. Kavitha notably drafted provisions of California’s first anti-trafficking law.She currently serves on the American Bar Association’s Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence and Task Force on Human Trafficking. She is the recipient of the American Bar Association’s 2013 Presidential Citation and recently received the American Bar Association’s 2013 Frances Perkins Public Service Award. Kavitha serves as adjunct faculty at Santa Clara University where she teaches on Violence Against Women, another area of her expertise. She is a graduate of UC Hastings College of the Law and UC Berkeley.
