This book provides a comprehensive guide to appellate mediation for legal advocates and mediators. Included are helpful approaches for first-time participants in appellate mediation, as well as those who regularly conduct or attend such mediations. This book teaches new and old practitioners alike, the basics of appellate law and how it informs the mediation process.
Brendon Ishikawa of Davis, California, is certified as a specialist in appellate law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization and has practiced appellate law for the past twenty years. He serves as a lead appellate court attorney at the California Court of Appeal, Third District. In his prior private practice, Mr. Ishikawa served as counsel in more than 100 appeals and writ proceedings. Dana Curtis of Sausalito, California, was among the first attorneys in the country to devote her career exclusively to mediation of civil matters, beginning her full-time practice in 1991. Since serving as a Circuit Mediator with the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, Ms. Curtis has maintained a private mediation practice in the Bay Area. Ms. Curtis taught mediation at Stanford Law School for 10 years and presently co-teaches Mediating Disputes for Harvard Law School's Program on Negotiation.
