Children's Rights

This study examines the diverse and often contentious issues surrounding the rights of children. Topics discussed include gay/lesbian adoptions, recommendations for an improved Children's Court, and the implications of the constitutionalization of children's rights in South Africa.

Because of South Africa's recent adoption of a Constitution and a Bill of Rights, the place of children in the legal system has been significantly altered. This text is a critical selection of articles that stringently and intelligently discuss issues surrounding the changing role of children's rights. Children's issues are no longer confined to the traditional spheres of public and private law so, in addition to discussing these shifts, the various contributors to this book draw attention to existing and potential problems in the restructuring of the child's place in our social and legal systems.
