Maurice A . Pomerantz, Ph.D. (2010), University of Chicago, is Assistant Professor of Literature at New York University Abu Dhabi. He has published on Abbasid literature and literary culture of the fourth/tenth century. He is currently writing on the Maqāmāt of Badīʿ al-Zamān al-Hamadhānī and the history and circulation of the maqāma genre. Aram A. Shahin, Ph. D. (2009), University of Chicago, is Assistant Professor of Arabic at James Madison University. He has published on Islamic political thought and Arabic literature. He is currently working on articles on the development of the institution of the caliphate and of concepts of political legitimacy.
