NOTE: NO FURTHER DICOUNT FOR THIS ITEM- OVERSTOCK SALE- Significantly reduced price The Pacific Tsunami Warning System, commonly referred to as the PTWS, has come far in the last five decades since its formation in 1965. 2015 marks 50 years since the establishment of the International tsunami warning system in the Pacific. This book covers the development of functional operational tsunami warning systems capable of providing information to save lives that did not have a simple and clear road map from the international system's inception. Medium and long-term planning had to adapt to new knowledge and opportunities. Each tsunami event provided new lessons to tsunami science and emergency response. Today, very fast numerical forecast models have been developed and tested that allow the size of a tsunami at a given location to be etimated. These advances in forecast models are leading to improvements in early warning, preparedness, and response. Communities are better able to know the level and frequency of impacts they might expect from future tsunamis. Going forward, forecasting, education, and technological public alerting tools will continue to improve with better, faster, and more accurate forcasts of both wave height and inundation flooding becoming available that may help to improve tsunami safety. This book is divided into eiight (8) sections. The first section provides the Foreword and Reflections from key member states followed by a section dedicated to Key Tsunami events dating back to the 1700s. Another section is dedicated to the Pacific Tsunami Warning System evolution. There is also a section that is dedicated to the Science and Technology behind forecasting models, seismic monitoring, and warning communications. Additionally, this book also includes a section about Disaster Management and Tsunami Preparation that includes education and awareness relating to evacuation, training, and exercises. Warning Centers and Organizations features a section on the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), the Internaitonal Tsunami Information Center (ITIC), Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization), Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), National Tsunami Warning Centers and Systems, and more. The final section includes PTWS Today and Tomorrow and includes visions into the future. Lastly, an Appendix section is included to provide Lessons Learned and statistical tables related to Pacific tsunamis, plus references to key Directors, meetings group photos, and glossary of terms and acronyms."
