Intended for individuals who use the MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) in forensic settings, this guide provides a primer in the use, meaning and interpretation of the MMPI when used in courtroom testimony.
This revised edition is intended for individuals who use the MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) in forensic settings, whether seasoned attorneys and expert witnesses or psychologists who have never set foot in a courtroom and attorneys who have never heard of the MMPI. The book provides a primer in the use, meaning and interpretation of the MMPI when used in courtroom testimony. Since its original publication in 1993, several changes have occurred that are discussed in this edition. First, the MMPI, having been largely replaced by the MMPI-2, will no longer be available after January 1 1999, and this edition provides a handy method for translating MMPI scores into MMPI-2 scores. Second, the US Supreme Court has revised standards for expert testimony - this new edition gives more explicit guidelines about the role and limits for expert witness testimony. And finally, there has been much research on the forensic uses of the MMPI-2 and MMPI-A. New appendices include a list of MMPI-2 and MMPI-A translators for those working with clients who do not speak English.

A Brief Overview; The MMPI, MMPI-2 and MMPI-A in Court Testimony; The Courts' Recognition, Use and Restriction of MMPI-Based Testimony; The Expert Witness Prepares and Presents; The Attorney Prepares and Presents; Assessing Malingering and Other Aspects of Credibility; Writing Forensic Reports; Deposition and Cross-Examination of the Expert Witness - 100 Basic Questions; Some Final Thoughts.
