This is the new edition of this standard radiological work. The last English edition appeared in 1968, but the present updated and enlarged 4th edition is totally re-written and practically a new book. Every medical faculty dealing with interpretation of radiographs will just have to have a copy of this work! Skeletal radiology makes up more than 50% of the daily routine of an X-ray department. Without knowledge of the normal situation and its variability, a correct interpretation especially in the fields of traumatology and tumour radiology is impossible. A daily handbook of the normal skeletal X-ray anatomy with numerous anomalies and variants - common but also rare practical problematic findings of both children and adults are shown. This new edition conforms to a modern didactic approach: after an introduction that relates the normal findings during growth and in adults, each section describes the variants and anomalies, continues with a discussion of injuries and necroses, and closes with a presentation of acquired conditions. The exposition invokes cardinal radiologic features, such as configuration, contour, density, etc. As in the previous editions, the presentation of conventional radiographic images prevails since plain films remain the primary examination in diagnosing skeletal conditions. If further evaluation is indicated, the appropriate supplemental examinations, such as scintigraphy or computed tomography, are mentioned and at times illustrated.
