Incidental carcinoma of the prostate is of vital importance since one out of six patients with an alleged benign prostatic hyperplasia will have a prostatic carcinoma which is discovered incidentally when examining the tissue obtained at adenomectomies. The incidence of this cancer increases with age and may be found in every second man older than 80 years. This volume provides an overview of such recent diagnostic tools as prostatic-specific antigen and transrectal ultrasound, or more agressive treatment, notably radical prostatectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy. In addition to these central issues, the natural history, radiotherapy and the application of hormones are extensively covered.
