Dictionary of Abbreviations in Medical Sciences

This lexicon is the most comprehensive collection of medical abbreviations and acronyms to date. New terms as of 1988 are included, especially from the rapidly changing fields of cardiology, immunology and genetics. The purpose is not to promote the
use of abbreviations, but rather to give assistance and improve understanding of acronyms commonly and increasingly occurring in current scientific literature. The approx. 20,000 entries were carefully selected to include items which might cause
confusion when reading the literature or attending medical-scientific meetings. An additional advantage is the Appendix containing the official abbreviations of some 500 leading medical journals. These notoriously cause difficulties for researchers
citing scientific literature or references. This lexicon is the ideal quick reference for the desktop of every clinician, researcher, or editor in the medical sciences.
