Considers the total synthesis of triterpenes, carbohydrates, aromatic steroids, pyrrole pigments and genes first reported during the period from 1972 through 1982 in this series. This work offers synthetic approaches to a variety of natural products, including the synthesis of cannabinoids, natural inophores, insect pheromones, and prostaglandins.
"The Total Synthesis of Natural Products" is edited by John ApSimon. The sixth volume in this popular series considers the total synthesis of triterpenes, carbohydrates, aromatic steroids, pyrrole pigments and genes first reported during the period from 1972 through 1982 in this series. In this fifth volume, ApSimon presents a review by Heathcock and co-workers covering the total synthesis in sesquiterpenes published during 1970 1979, offering an overview of current practice in synthesis. The fourth volume in this successful series offers synthetic approaches to a wide variety of natural products, including the synthesis of cannabinoids, natural inophores, insect pheromones, monoterpenes, and prostaglandins.

About the editor John ApSimon received his Doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Liverpool in 1959. He teaches at Carleton University, Ottawa, where he has been since 1962. He is a former Senior Editor of the Canadian Journal of Chemistry and is currently the Associate Dean and Director for Research at Carleton University.
