The Sixth Edition of Physics for Scientists and Engineers offers a completely integrated text and media solution that will help students learn most effectively and will enable professors to customize their classrooms so that they teach most efficiently. The text includes a new strategic problem-solving approach, an integrated Math Tutorial, and new tools to improve conceptual understanding. To simplify the review and use of the text, Physics for Scientists and Engineers is available in these versions:

Volume 1 Mechanics/Oscillations and Waves/Thermodynamics (Chapters 1–20, R)

Volume 2 Electricity and Magnetism/Light (Chapters 21–33)

Volume 3 Elementary Modern Physics (Chapters 34–41)

Standard Version (Chapters 1-33, R)

Extended Version (Chapters 1-41, R)

The new edition of Physics for Scientists and Engineers is now supported in Achieve, Macmillan’s new online learning platform. Achieve is a comprehensive set of interconnected teaching and assessment tools. It incorporates the most effective elements from Macmillan’s market-leading solutions—including Sapling, LaunchPad, iClicker and others—in a single, easy to use platform. Our resources were co-designed with instructors and students, using a foundation of learning research and rigorous testing.

Paul Tipler began his teaching career at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, USA then moved to Oakland University in Michigan, USA as one of the original members of its physics department, playing a major role in developing the physics curriculum. At one time or another over the course of his career, he has taught nearly all of the physics courses. In addition to Physics for Scientists and Engineers, he is also the author of the widely used texts Modern Physics and College Physics. Gene Mosca has taught a variety of students in the calculus based course at Emporia (KS) State, USA for two years, the University of South Dakota, USA for nine years and at Annapolis for twelve years. He recently retired from his teaching position at the U.S. Naval Academy, where, as coordinator of the core physics course, he instituted numerous enhancements to both the laboratory and classroom. Proclaimed by Paul Tipler as 'the best reviewer I ever had,' Mosca became co-author beginning with the fifth edition of this book.
