This book includes complete background on geophysical methods of exploration, practices, and case histories for better understanding of the subject of geophysics and its applicability in diverse fields of exploration. It details both conventional and advanced geophysical techniques, with description of physics involved into different methodologies. Divided into 16 chapters, the book includes detailed discussions of the theory of individual methods, the operation of specific instruments, the presentation of results, and their interpretation.
Features:
Discusses potential geophysical methods and applications in mineral exploration
Reviews natural hazard risk mitigation using geophysical methods
Covers surface, air, marine, and well logging geophysical applications in natural resource exploration
Includes electrical, electromagnetic, seismic, and radioactive geophysical methods supported by successful case histories
Strengthens mathematical and problem-solving skills covering all the geophysical aspects
This book is aimed at graduate and post graduate students in Applied geophysics, Exploration geophysics, Marine geophysics, Engineering, and Environmental geophysics.
O.P. Mishra is a Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India (F.N.A.Sc.) for his pioneering work involving Applied Geophysics / Seismology / Disaster Risk Management having over 32-years of experience in different field of earth sciences and seismology and exploration Geophysics. Presently, he is working with Ministry of Earth Sciences as Adviser / Scientist G & Director, National Centre for Seismology. He obtained M.Sc. Tech degree from IIT (ISM)-Dhanbad in Applied Geophysics; Ph.D.; D.Sc. from Geodynamics Research Centre, Japan in Seismology; PGDMA from AIMA, New Delhi in Finance Management. Dr. Mishra worked with: IDRC-Canada in a joint venture project with CMPDIL, Coal India during 1992 - 1995; served Geological Survey of India for about 20-years (1995 – 2014). He worked with SAARC Disaster Management Centre, New Delhi as the Head / Director; He also worked at GRC-Japan as the FOREIGN Visiting Guest Professor. D.C. Naskar received M.Sc. degree in Physics from Calcutta University. He was conferred with doctorate degrees from Jadavpur University. He has experience in the diverse fields including teaching and technical streams of different institutes at state and central level in India. Dr. D.C. Naskar has a total of 32 years (1989-2021) of experience in the field of exploration geophysics at different capacities in Geological Survey of India (GSI) where he deployed different geophysical methods in the Indian sub-continent for resolving various geological problems associated with mineral exploration and to understand geodynamical processes.
