This book introduces you to the world of electromagnetic waves. It contains a detailed analysis of electromagnetic surface waves in microwave absorbing layers. The surface waves play an important role in the complex scattering and absorption process. Although microwave absorbing coatings have been widely used since the Second World War, their properties have not been sufficiently studied. The authors have investigated surface waves in actual microwave absorbing layers in detail. This book demystifies complicated subjects and is ideal for researchers, engineers, and students. This book is essential for everyone – experienced professionals as well as those just entering the industry. Discover electromagnetic waves in a brand-new way to transform how you perceive contemporary technologies.

Pyotr Ya. Ufimtsev holds a PhD in radio engineering from the Central Research Institute of the Defence Ministry (Russia, 1959) and a doctorate in theoretical and mathematical physics from St Petersburg University (Russia, 1970). He is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (USA), and a recipient of the USSR State Prize (Moscow, 1990) and the Grumman Medal (New York, USA, 1991). Rung T. Ling received his PhD in physics from the University of California, San Diego, USA, in 1972. He continued his research on quantum scattering theory at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA, as a research fellow. From 1999 to 2001, he was a visiting professor of electrical engineering at the Technical University of Hamburg, Germany.Gökhan Apaydin is a professor in the Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Uskudar University, Istanbul, Turkey. He received the BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees in the Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey in 2001, 2003, and 2007, respectively. His research interests include computational electromagnetics, wave propagation, diffraction modeling, scattering, MATLAB applications for engineers, and related areas.
