This book, Gut microbiome and Brain Ageing, deals with the mechanisms and phenomenon that relates gut microbiome and aging of the brain. This book will bring forth the connection between good gut and brain aging and includes some cutting edge research topics dealing with gut physiology and its importance as future therapeutic option in neurological disorders. The gut microbiome's impact on neuronal function, mediated by neurotransmitters, vitamins, and neuroactive microbial metabolites, is an exciting area of investigation that this book thoroughly explores. It also covers the pivotal role of the gut microbiome in the etiology of various neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), depression, or multiple sclerosis (MS). It also explores the expanding understanding of the importance of the early-life gut microbiota and its implications for long-term health consequences. This book primarily addresses researchers, clinicians, and doctoral andgraduate students working in biomedicine, neurobiology, nutrition, microbiology, and translational medicine streams.
Prof. Surajit Pathak, Ph.D. is currently working as a Professor at Chettinad Academy of Research and Education, Kelambakkam, Chennai (From 2015-till date). He worked as a Principal Research Scientist in Linkoping University, Linkoping, Sweden (2022 June- Dec 2022). He has received his Ph.D. degree from India in 2007, and completed his post-doctoral training (2007-2015) at the University of Alabama, USA, University of Padova, Italy and University of Linkoping, Sweden. He received various research grants from the national and international funding agencies. He is the editorial board member of various renowned international journals. Prof. Pathak has edited several books of Springer Nature 'Cancer Stem Cells: New Horizonsin Cancer Therapies', MRW book 'Handbook of Animal Models and its Uses in Cancer Research' and 'Evidence-Based Functional Foods for Prevention of Age-related Diseases'. He is the member of various professional research bodies of India including Indian Association of Cancer Research, Indian Science Congress and Aesthetic Multispecialty Society, Europe (AMS).
Dr. Antara Banerjee is presently working as an associate professor at Chettinad Academy of research and Education (CARE), Chennai. After completing her Ph.D. in 2008 from India, Dr. Banerjee pursued her post-doctoral research at the University of Padova, Italy till 2012 working on cancer and mesenchymal stem cells. These works fostered her interest in understanding the role of the mesenchymal niche in tissue regeneration and exploring signalling pathways in governing stem cell fate. Later, she joined as a research associate at Linkoping University, Sweden in 2015. She has published over 110 research and review articles in international and national journals with h-index of 23 and 1900 citations. She is a member of various professional research bodies in India and abroad including, the Indian Association of Cancer Research, Indian Science Congress, and Aesthetic Multispecialty Society (AMS). Dr. Banerjee has edited several books of Springer Nature on Stem Cells and Cancer.
