Activated Carbon: Synthesis, Analysis, and Industrial Applications explores the fundamentals of activated carbon production and characterization, modification techniques and applications of machine learning in the field of activated carbon synthesis and applications. The book is divided into three parts to enable readers and researchers of all levels easy access to the information herein. Part 1 is on Synthesis methods and characterization techniques. The next six chapters on part 2 focus on diverse industrial applications of activated carbon. The last section is on machine learning applications as well as research progress in activated carbon synthesis, modification, and diverse applications. Written for researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, academics, and industry professionals in the fields of sustainable environmental science and chemical engineering, this book will be a welcomed reference for those who wish to better understand the role of activated carbon in solving sustainability challenges in the world related to energy shortage, greenhouse gas emissions, and environmental issues.

Jude Okolie is an assistant professor in Gallogly College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, United States. His research focuses on the thermochemical conversion of waste materials to green fuels and the subsequent utilization of hydrochar, biochars, and activated carbon for environmental remediation. His research also includes the application of process simulation, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to address climate change, environmental pollution, and sustainable agriculture challenges. Dr. Okolie has been granted several prestigious local and international awards, including the George Ira Hanson Energy Award for his work on thermochemical hydrogen production and the USASK service award for his contribution to diversity and equity. He is a two-time recipient of the reputable Engineering Devolved Scholarship at the USASK for his outstanding contribution to clean energy research. Alivia Mukherjee is a research associate in the department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada. Her research focuses on biochar production and applications for environmental remediation including post combustion CO2 Capture. Dr. Alivia has published more than 15 peer reviewed articles and several book chapters. She has broad experience in activated carbon, material characterization, carbon dioxide removal, process simulation and optimization, and production of novel functional carbon materials for environmental applications.
