Rice is the most important cereal crop and feeds more than half the population of the world. This book explores at length the present state of the art in rice biotechnology which has become more and more essential for rice breeding. Special emphasis is laid on the regeneration of plants from protoplasts, production of haploids and the release of cultivars, as well as on hybridization and somaclonal variation for the induction and conservation of genetic variability.
