This volume contains the proceedings of the 2023 iteration of the ISPGAYA conference, titled "Digital Sustainability: Inclusion and Transformation" and held in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. The conference and resulting book intend to explore the involvement of Portugal, a country on the semi-periphery of the world system, in developments regarding the understanding of and progress toward sustainability. The conference was organized by ISPGAYA, an institution belonging to the private polytechnic higher education system in Portugal, and brought together participants from around the world. This volume intends to establish a milestone in the multidimensional approach to the theme of sustainability, affirming the concept's multi and interdisciplinary nature and bringing together scholars across disciplines.

Fernando Luís Almeida

PhD in Engineering and Computer Science from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). Holds a Masters in Innovation and Technological Entrepreneurship and a degree in Computer Engineering and Computing by FEUP. In the last 10 years of activity he has performed professional functions in the field of university polytechnic education, business, and applied research in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship and information technologies.

Integrated researcher at INESC TEC's Center for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship. He is a founding member of the US-based International Association of Innovation Professionals (IAOIP).

Currently, Director of the Higher School of Science and Technology as Coordinating Professor at ISPGAYA.


José Carlos Morais

Ph.D. in Sociology from Faculdade de Letras of University of Porto since 2010. Director of the Journal of Psicologia, Educação e Cultura. Researcher  as member in  CEOS.PP (Center for Organizational and Social Studies of the Polytechnic of Porto). From 2014 to the present, he has held the presidency of the ISPGAYA Technical-Scientific Council. He teaches courses in undergraduate and masters cycles in the area of social sciences, research methods and humanities.

Since 2017 he has regularly participated in international collaboration programs-ERASMUS in Europe and in the USA.


José Duarte Santos

 Phd in Management and Business Directing Management from the University of Vigo.He also holds MSc in Marketing and a bachelor's degree in Business Sciences.

Between 1987 and 2002, he played various roles in sales, marketing, and management of companies in the information technology sector. From 2003 to 2018, he performed the functions of a management and marketing consultant.

Since 1999, he has been a professor in higher education in Portugal in the fields of management and marketing. He is currently a marketing professor at the Accounting and Business School of the Polytechnic of Porto (ISCAP/P.PORTO).
