The first part of this volume is a study of the unique object SS 433 = V1343 Aql, a massive X-ray binary system which has all the indications of a probable black hole. The second paper is an analysis of the current state of gravity-wave astronomy and the prospects for its further development.
The first part of this volume is a study of the unique object SS 433 = V1343 Aql, a massive X-ray binary system which has all the indications of a probable black hole. The author presents the current theories on SS 433 which are based on an analysis of many years of photometric observations. The second paper is an analysis of the current state of gravity-wave astronomy and the prospects for its further development, paying particular attention to the generating principles and physical characteristics of the relic stochastic background of gravitational waves.

Part 1 Data of photometric observations of SS 433 and their interpretation: main characteristics of the object; photometric observations of SS 433 during 1979-1986; investigation of the orbital and precession periods from photometric data; changes in the brightness of SS 433 in the V band; features of the light curves in the IR band and in other bands of the optical spectrum; variability of the absolute intensities of the emission lines in the spectrum of SS 433; a present-day model of SS 433; interpretation of photometric observations of SS 433; analogy between SS 433 and other galactic and extra-galactic objects; unsolved problems. Part 2 Gravity-wave astronomy: introduction - gravity-wave astronomy in action; astronomical manifestations of gravitational waves; theory and some new results; sources of gravitational waves and current experimental limits; the stochastic background of gravitational waves - the early universe; detection of gravitational waves; new ideas and prospects.
