The structure function describes how energy/momentum is distributed among the quarks/gluon inside a nucleon. This is estimated from the deep inelastic scattering of electrons or muon with the nucleon, or even with nucleon-nucleon scattering. This book reviews several statistic/thermodynamic models for both polarized and unpolarized structure function, with additional applications, such as the study of the EMC effect. It will appeal to both researchers and students of hadronic and nuclear/particle physics.

Carlos Alberto Mirez Tarrillo is Associate Professor at Institute of Science, Engineering and Technology at the Federal University of the Valleys of Jequitinhonha and Mucuri, Brazil. He holds a doctorate in Theoretical Physics from the Institute of Theoretical Physics at Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho”, Brazil. His research focuses on theoretical physics and mathematical models in science, engineering and social sciences.Luis Augusto Trevisan is Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the State University of Ponta Grossa, Brazil. He received his PhD in Physics from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and his research focuses on hadronic physics and mathematical modeling. His publications include the articles “Strangeness Content and Structure Function of the Nucleon in a Statistical Quark Model” and “On the Creation out of Nothing”.
