This book explores the topic of gyrolite and calcium silicate hydrates, focusing on their potential applications in wastewater purification and as additives in ordinary Portland cement. Divided into five chapters, the book provides a comprehensive description of calcium silicate hydrates and addresses challenges in reusing solid waste. It also covers the synthesis and application of gyrolite, offering technological recommendations for future studies. The results presented are supported by instrumental analysis techniques and thermodynamic calculations, allowing readers to delve into inorganic chemistry and materials characterization. The book is suitable for both researchers and students interested in chemistry and materials characterization, offering valuable insights and guidance in the field.

Prof. Dr. K. Baltakys is Doctor of Science in the field of technological sciences, and chemical engineering, Professor of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology. His main research interests include the development, structural properties, and application of calcium silicates and their derivatives with other non-organic oxides for innovative technologies. He has carried out and systematized extensive theoretical and applied research, and has obtained new scientific results which have an impact and significance for the development of high technologies and the creation of new technologies that can be implemented in Lithuanian conditions as well as elsewhere. Prof. Dr. K. Baltakys has participated in and led 3 international and 25 national projects. He has been cooperating with international partners from the European Union and the USA for several years, with whom he has signed R&D cooperation agreements. Prof. Dr. K. Baltakys has published more than 270 scientific publications in scientific periodicals, including 138 publications with the citation index in the Clarivate Analytics WoS database, a scientific monograph, three textbooks, and 2 educational books. He has obtained 2 national patents. He has supervised 7 successfully defended doctoral dissertations, has been a member of 7 doctoral dissertation defense committees, and is a member of the Doctoral Committee in Chemical Engineering and the Doctoral Committee in Civil Engineering at KTU. Prof. Dr. K. Baltakys has had internships at the Insti-tut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) de Rennes, France, at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, at Riga Technical University, Latvia, at the Uni-versity of Hradec Králové, Czech Republic and at Technical University of Carta-gena (Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena), Spain. Prof. Dr. K. Baltakys has presented over 100 papers at international conferences in Latvia, France, Serbia, Belgium, Spain, and other countries.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. T. Dambrauskas obtained his Ph.D in Chemical Engineering from Kaunas University of Technology and he boasts a solid academic background enriched by research experience in chemistry and chemical engineering. He has been conducting research on the synthesis of functional silicate materials under hydrothermal conditions, their thermal stability, and potential applications (production of new types of cement, VOC oxidation, cosmetics, etc.). With co-authors, Assoc. Prof. Dr. T. Dambrauskas has published 36 scientific publications in journals with a citation index included in the Clarivate Analytics WoS database and has obtained 2 Lithuanian patents. He has managed more than 15 projects funded by the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and private businesses. Also, he has been involved in the research of 2 international and 4 national, 2 business, and 2 institutional projects. In addition to research and teaching activities, Assoc. Prof. Dr. T. Dambrauskas has been involved in the activities of various study and science organizations.
