Climate change is a reality that cannot now be disputed and solutions exist, whether technological or societal. However, it is essential to understand their capacity to meet a demand for energy and resources that will continue to grow.

Faced with the confusion of messages, the multiplicity, and, sometimes, the naivety of the roadmaps for achieving a carbon-neutral world, this concise book proposes a return to the fundamentals that we should all know before we can choose the type of development we want. It invites us to move away from dogmatic positions, preconceived, and partisan ideas and to become aware that all the choices available to us have advantages and disadvantages, and that these must be rigorously quantified in order to prevent today's solutions from becoming tomorrow's disasters.

Erwan Saouter is a prominent environmental scientist. He is a holder of a doctorate in environmental toxicology from the University of Bordeaux. With over 35 years of professional experience, he has been deeply committed to studying the ramifications of human activities on the planet's ecological balance.

Throughout his career, he has conducted extensive research on critical environmental issues, including energy, climate, food waste, and chemical and plastic pollution. He served as the director of Climate and Energy at the World Business Council of Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and contributing to research with the European Commission at the Institute for Environment and Sustainability (JRC).

As the founder and CEO of his own environmental-focused venture, he continues to lead the charge in advocating for environmentally responsible practices and spearheading initiatives that promote a healthier planet.
Thomas Gibon is a researcher in life cycle assessment. For more than 10 years he has been exploring the environmental consequences of technological choices, especially on the topics of energy and electricity. Passionate about knowledge communication, he has contributed to various UN reports (IPCC AR5, UNEP and UNECE reports on LCA of electricity technologies) and regularly works with promoting science to the public via conferences and talks.

Thomas holds a degree from École Centrale Paris (France) and a doctorate in Industrial Ecology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU, Trondheim). He is currently working at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST)
