In this book recent developments in dehydrogenation reactions catalyzed by 3d-metals are discussed. With continue efforts to develop sustainable chemical production the discovery of new catalysts and catalytic procedures for (de)hydrogenation reactions are a subject of great interest to the chemistry community. Additionally, (de)hydrogenation reactions enable the creation of closed-loop production cycles that support a circular economy. The chapters presented include the synthesis of heterocycles and tandem-multicomponent (three or more) reactions through dehydrogenative strategy, as well as the conversion of ethanol to n-butanol, higher oxidized hydrocarbons like acids, ester, amides from alcohols, -alkylation of amines, ketones, and amides with alcohols and mechanistic understanding of dehydrogenation reactions with high-valent metals. With contributions from experts in the field, the book is a valuable resource for scholars working in the field of organometallic chemistry, catalysis, medicinal chemistry, as well as researchers in the industry.

Basker Sundararaju received his PhD degree in 2011 from the Université de Rennes1 in France. He then moved to Max-Planck-Institute für Kohlenforschung, Mülheim for a two-year post-doctoral work under the guidance of Prof. Alois Fürstner supported by AvH fellowship. Subsequently, he started his independent career as an assistant professor at the department of chemistry, IIT Kanpur in 2013, and raised to the level of associate professor in 2018. His research focuses on developing new catalysts/catalytic methods for functionalization C-H bonds, the hydrogen neutral concept, and waste recycling using 3d metals. He has published 65 papers with the citations over 3700 times and has an H-index of 33. His work has been recognised worldwide and received several awards including the Thieme chemistry journal award, the BRNS young scientist award, the PK Kelkar young faculty award, the Merck Young Scientist award, the CRSI bronze medal. He was invited to join as a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). He served on the ACS Catalysis early career editorial advisory board (2018-20) and is currently an Associate Editor of the Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry (2019-). He has collaborated with various researchers on a national and international level.
