This book offers a comprehensive overview of the origins, occurrences, and remediation strategies for organic micropollutants in the environment. Divided into five parts, the book starts with a perspective on the sources and prevalence of organic micropollutants in our world, including aquatic ecosystems and urban soils, followed by an examination of the effects of these contaminants on health, agriculture, and the environment. In the third and fourth parts of the book, readers will learn more about the analysis and detection of organic micropollutants, and treatment and remediation strategies, respectively. The book closes with an overview of policies and regulatory measures, and critiques the fate of organic micropollutants in the aquatic environment.

In this book, particular attention is given to topics such as:

  • the intricate relationship between micropollutants, the environment, and human health
  • sustainable management, treatment methodsand remediation for micropollutants in wastewater, urban water systems, freshwaters, urban soils, and agriculture
  • ecotoxicity analysis and innovative bioremediation approaches
Readers will also find a valuable discussion of the current contamination status of aquatic ecosystems by pharmaceutical and personal care micropollutants, the latest methodologies for analysing organic micropollutants, and a case study on the biodegradation pathways of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH).

Given its breadth, this book is a useful resource for scientists, researchers, policymakers, and anyone concerned about the ecological and human health impacts of organic micropollutants.

lt;p>Rahul Bhadouria is an Environmental Researcher at the University of Delhi, India, and his research interests focus on the fields of ecosystem ecology, natural resource management and climate change. He has been devoting his attention to the management of soil C dynamics to mitigate climate change and has published articles and books on topics such as the impact of climate change on tropical dry forests, pollution and water management, and urban ecology.

Sachchidanand Tripathi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany at the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, University of Delhi, India. His research areas focus on soil ecology, urban ecology and plant ecology, with particular attention to soil analysis, sustainable agriculture and soil fertility.

Pardeep Singh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science PGDAV College, University of Delhi, New Delhi, India. With 55+ articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, his main research contributions are in the fields of waste management, nano-material synthesis and applications, photochemical waste degradation and management, and soil C dynamics.

Rishikesh Singh is an environmental researcher at Banaras Hindu University, India, and he holds a PhD degree from the same institution, where he studied the impact analysis of agronomic practices. With 70+ publications in the field of environmental sciences, he has been focusing his research on environmental contaminants and the management of agroecosystems using living materials derived from products like biochar. He is also serving as the Assistant Editor in the journal "Tropical Ecology".

Harminder Pal Singh is a Professor, and former Chairperson of the Department of Environment Studies at Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. He had been post-doctoral researcher at the National Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, National Science and Technology Development Agency, Thailand; and visiting faculty at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. He is the recipient of the Shiv Nath Rai Kohli Best Mid-Career Award, Young Scientist Awards by Indian Science Congress Association, Dalela Educational Trust, and Punjab Academy of Sciences.
