Foundations of Rock Mechanics in Oil and Gas Engineering (eBook)
XI, 327 Seiten
Springer Nature Singapore (Verlag)
978-981-99-1417-3 (ISBN)
This book introduces the basic theoretical knowledge of rock mechanics and its application in petroleum engineering. It covers the gamut of the formulas and calculations for petroleum engineers that have been compiled over decades, while others are meant to help guide the engineer through some of the more recent breakthroughs in the industry's technology.
The topics are introduced at a level that should give a good basic understanding of the subject:
• Basic concepts of stress and strain
• Experimental method of rock mechanics
• Rock deformation and strength characteristics
• Rock strength failure criterion
• In situ stress state
• Application method of rock mechanics theory in the field of wellbore stability
• Application method of rock mechanics theory in the field of sand production
• Application method of rock mechanics theory in the field of hydraulic fracturing.
This textbook contains abundant figures, illustrations, and tables, providing valuable examples and exercises.
Key Features and Benefits for the Reader: • Helps in understanding the basic concepts of rock mechanics• Applies rock mechanics theory and method to various fields of petroleum engineering
• Includes a large number of calculations, tables, and equations that are very useful for petroleum engineers
• Presents new and updated sections in rock mechanics of petroleum engineering.
Yuanfang Cheng, professor, doctoral supervisor, and expert with special government allowance of the State Council, has more than 30 years of experience in teaching and researching rock mechanics in petroleum engineering. He has successively undertaken a number of national projects such as the National 973 Project, the National Key Research and Development Program, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China and won 1 second prize of national teaching achievement, 2 first prizes of provincial and ministerial teaching achievements, 4 first prizes of provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 15 school-level scientific and technological progress awards. He has published 3 textbooks and monographs, published more than 200 papers, 100 of which have been published in international journals, and served as the editorial board of many journals such as Journal of Applied Basic and Engineering Science and Petroleum Drilling Technology. He was a visiting researcher at Heriot-Watt University in 2004 and has given more than 10 academic reports at several international conferences.
Chuanliang Yan, associate professor and doctoral supervisor, is mainly engaged in the teaching and research of rock mechanics in petroleum engineering, published more than 100 papers, 70 of which have been published in international journals, authorized more than 10 invention patents, published 1 monograph, and served as the editorial board member of Journal of China University of Petroleum (Natural Science Edition), Petroleum Science Bulletin, and other journals. He has given 5 academic reports at several international conferences.
Zhongying Han, associate professor, is mainly engaged in the teaching and research of rock mechanics in petroleum engineering. As the person in charge, she has undertaken more than 10 research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, published more than 50 papers, and authorized 7 invention patents. She has given 3 academic reports at several international conferences.
