This book presents the applications of high-energy beam radiation for synthesis and processing of polymeric materials. It addresses fundamental nature of high energy i.e., ionizing radiations and interaction with monomers and polymers leading to a wide variety of products such as tyres, textiles, shape memory polymers, polymers for aviation and space applications, polymeric biomaterials and natural rubber latex. It discusses general principles and techniques of preparation of polymeric materials including polymer blends, composites and nanocomposites. It also includes the topic of radiation-assisted recycling of polymers through breaking of covalent bonds. This book will be useful for students, researchers and professionals in the areas of polymers science and technology, radiation technology, electron beam technology, gamma radiation technology, advanced materials technology, biomaterials technology, nanotechnology, membrane science technology and environmental science.

Dr. Subhendu Ray Chowdhury is currently a 'Senior Scientist' in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, India, He is also a research guide and visiting professor of Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) [Formerly UDCT], Matunga, Mumbai, India. Dr. Ray Chowdhury obtained his Ph.D in Materials Science from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India. After completion of his Ph.D, Dr. Ray Chowdhury worked for seven years in various world renowned laboratories in USA, including the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Cornell University and Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Pennsylvania State University. He has published more than 70 papers in International journals, couple of book chapters and more than 50 conference papers in radiation-assisted materials development through processing, modification and synthesis. He has supervised many Ph.D and postgraduate students. He obtained couple of patents and transferred many technologies to Industries. His accolades and achievements include National Award for Technology Innovation 2019 by Ministry of Chemicals and Fertlizers, Government of India, CSIR research fellowship through NET (National Eligibility Test), National advisory committee membership of International conference organized by NAARRI (NICSTAR 2015), DAE etc. He has been involved in RCA/UNDP project on 'Electron Beam Applications in Materials Science' in 2013 as an 'International Expert Committee member' from India. He also served as a 'Category A, International Faculty' on Materials Science and Electron beam for environmental remedy (RCA/UNDP PROJECT) in July 2017, Republic of Korea (South Korea). He is a regular reviewer of more than 25 reputed international journals. As an experienced researcher he uses to deliver talks as key note speaker, invited speaker and chairs many sessions in international and national conferences.
