Pastoral, theological, recreational, and medical writings are among the texts discussed in this wide-ranging study.

He has taught at the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, and Dalhousie University, and is currently Assistant Professor of English at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.
