Written by active investigators in the field, this book describes state-of-the-art methods that can accelerate the acquisition of 2D NMR spectra in solution-state NMR. The acquisition of fast multi-dimensional NMR data has motivated numerous ground-breaking developments in NMR pulse sequences and associated data processing methods. These in turn have revolutionized the way 2D NMR acquisitions are performed, at the same time broadening the scope of applications of 2D NMR.

The first part of the book provides an in-depth description of the concepts and implementation of major fast 2D NMR methods. The second part follows with illustrations of how such methods can be used in applications that require the acquisition of fast 2D NMR spectra, from reaction monitoring to hyperpolarization, including applications to a broad variety of samples and experimental conditions.

Appealing to readers from both the methodology and applications communities, this title will fill a gap in the market for a book focused on small molecule NMR, and researchers from both academia and industry will find a rich plethora of knowledge.

Jean-Nicolas Dumez is a CNRS associate scientist at the CEISAM research institute in Nantes. His work focuses on the development of fast multidimensional NMR methods, and their application to the analysis of solution mixtures, with a focus on out-of-equilibrium systems. This includes the development of fast diffusion NMR methods, and single-scan 2D NMR methods for reaction monitoring. He is an associate editor of the Magnetic Resonance in Chemistry journal, and has authored 70 papers in several areas of NMR (solid-state, liquid-state, MRI, hyperpolarisation). He has received multiple grants and awards, including an ERC starting grant awarded in 2018. Patrick Giraudeau is a Professor of analytical chemistry at the University of Nantes. His research activities at the CEISAM research institute are focused on the development of quantitative NMR methods for the analysis of complex mixtures, including applications to metabolomics. Research highlights include the development of fast multi-dimensional quantitative experiments at high fields and also on benchtop spectrometers, as well as recent investigations in dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization. Patrick Giraudeau is an associate editor of the Magnetic Resonance in Chemistry journal, the vice-president of the Francophone metabolomics and fluxomics network (RFMF), a board member of major magnetic resonance societies (Ampere, Euromar) and has authored more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has received multiple grants and awards, among which an ERC consolidator grant awarded in 2018.
