This text has chapters on the areas which neuronal tissue culture may be applied. It reviews environmental artefacts, neuronal apoptosis, the substratum in neuronal culture, and provides protocols for the propagation of mammalian, avian, lower vertebrate and invertebrate nervous system tissues.
During the 1990s, neural tissue culture has undergone a revolution. This volume in the IBRO Handbook Series contains 22 chapters from the range of fields to which neuronal tissue culture may be applied. Each method is well illustrated and includes exemplary data. Eight further chapters review environmental artefacts, the understanding and control of neuronal apoptosis and the substratum in neuronal culture. In addition, these later chapters provide many short protocols for the propagation of mammalian, avian, lower vertebrate and invertebrate nervous system tissues. Prominent treatment is given to organised culture formats for neurons, and the final chapter presents protocols for reconstucted and organotypic culture methods. This text also has step-by-step protocols needed to undertake cell culture in neuroscience, plus detailed applications of these methods.
