TRAIL (TNF Related Apoptosis Inducing Ligand) induces cancer cells to undergo programmed cell death, while having no effect on normal cells. This protein deserves review concerning its mechanism of action and the ways in which it can be used as a cancer chemotherapeutic agent. This volume reviews the status of research on TRAIL.
The discovery of TRAIL (TNF Related Apoptosis Inducing Ligand), also referred to as Apo-2, is in an era of intense research because TRAIL induces many cancer cells to undergo programmed cell death (apoptosis), while having no effect on normal cells. This important protein deserves extensive review at a formative time in the devlopement of our knowledge concerning its mechanism of action and the ways in which it can be used as a cancer chemotherapeutic agent. Consequently, this voume reviews the current status of research on TRAIL.

Dr. Litwack has authored 3 textbooks on biochemistry and hormones (one with John Wiley & Sons and 2 with Academic Press/Elsevier) and he has edited more than 70 volumes in the Vitamins & Hormones series (Academic Press/Elsevier); he has edited 14 volumes entitled Biochemical Actions of Hormones (Academica Press); He has edited (with David Kritchevsky) Actions of Hormones on Molecular Processes (Academic Press)
