Naturally occuring plant products have quite diverse applications in many different industries. The book aims to highlight the important aspects of plant-based gums, resins and latexes as well as provide a strategic framework for further research and development activities on these bioproducts. It will appeal to a broad audience such as biologists, pharmacologists, pharmacists, food technologists and medical practitioners. It is also a useful resource for research investigators of the healthcare industry, academia and students of biomedical sciences.
H. N. Murthy is a Professor at the Department of Botany at the Karnatak University, Dharwad, India. His main research interests include genetics and breeding; plant cell and organ cultures for the production of bioactive compounds; design of bioreactors for plant cell organ cultures; biosafety of biotechnologically derived bioactive compounds, genetic diversity; and conservation and utilization of neglected and underutilized fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants. He has published over 200 articles and more than 30 book chapters and was the co-editor of the books "Production of Biomass and Bioactive Compounds Using Bioreactor Technology" (Springer, 2014), "Bioactive Compounds in Underutilized Fruits and Nuts" (Springer, 2020) and "Bioactive Compounds in Underutilized Vegetables and Legumes (Springer, 2021). He has received several awards, including the Award for Research Publication from the Vision Group on Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka (2011), and a UGC-Mid Career Award from the University Grants Commission (2018).
