This book comprises the select proceedings from the 2nd International Conference on Structural Damage Modelling and Assessment (SDMA 2021) held in the city of Ghent, Belgium, on 4–5 August 2021. It discusses the recent advances in fields related to damage modelling, damage detection and assessment, non-destructive testing and evaluation, structure integrity and structural health monitoring. The conference covers all research topics and applications relevant to structural damage modelling and assessment using theoretical, numerical and experimental techniques. This book is useful to scientists and engineers in academia and industry who are interested in the field of structural damage and integrity for disaster risk reduction.

Professor Magd Abdel Wahab is Full Professor of applied mechanics in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University, Belgium, and Adjunct Full Professor in several universities in Vietnam and China. He received his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and his M.Sc. in Structural Mechanics, both from Cairo University. He completed his Ph.D. in Fracture Mechanics at KU Leuven, Belgium, and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Science from the University of Surrey. He has published more than 520 scientific papers in solid mechanics and dynamics of structures and edited more than 30 books and proceedings. His research interests include fracture mechanics, damage mechanics, fatigue of materials, durability and dynamics and vibration of structures.

Finite Element Model Updating of lifeline truss bridge using vibration-based measurement data and Arithmetic Optimization Algorithm.- A two-step approach for damage detection in a real 3D Tower using the reduced-order finite element model updating and Atom search algorithm (ASO).- Monitoring bridge frequency using passing vehicle.- Topology optimization for a large-scale truss bridge using a hybrid metaheuristic search algorithm.- Prediction displacement diaphragm wall in deep excavation problem.- Experimental investigations and numerical simulation for the seismic assessment of a masonry building.- A Portable Scanning Device for Local Vibration Testing of Concrete Structures.- Detecting Delamination of Pavement Layers in Airfield Runways Using Local Vibration Testing and Machine Learning.- Damage Evaluation of RC Structures Using Simplified Wave Propagation Analysis and Machine Learning.
