The current trends in Geotechnical Engineering are moving towards sustainable design and construction. Studies presented in this volume present recent research findings and critically review the existing literature related to assessment of sustainable geomaterials and environmental geotechnics. Special emphasise is given to the material characterization on industry by product or newly developed sustainable materials in geotechnical engineering or pavement engineering. This volume is based on contributions to the 6th GeoChina International Conference on Civil & Transportation Infrastructures: From Engineering to Smart & Green Life Cycle Solutions -- Nanchang, China, 2021.

Prof. KaiYao is currently afull professor of the School of Qilu Transportation, at the Shandong University, China. He obtained PhD from National University of Singapore in 2017, and after that he worked in Singapore as a research fellow until Oct 2020. His main research interests are soil stabilization, ground modification and sustainable cementitious materials. He has published more than 40 journal papers. He is also the associate editor of Arabian Journal of Geosciences, and the editorial board member of Environmental Geotechnics, Proceedings of theInstitution of Civil Engineers-Geotechnical Engineering, Journal of Renewable Materials.
Zhenyu Mei, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Zhejiang University , Anzhong Building, Zijingang Campus,Zhejiang University.
Mr Julius Komba is a senior research engineer at the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He is a graduate of Civil Engineering, and also holds a Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Transportation Engineering) and Master of Transportation Engineering, all from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He has been involved in several road infrastructure research projects in South Africa, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Mozambique and Malawi. His research interests focusin road pavement design, construction and maintenance, forensic investigation into the causes of premature failures of pavements, road asset management, long-term pavement performance monitoring, testing and modelling mechanical properties of road construction materials. He has authored/co-authored over 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. He is a member of the South African Institution of Civil Engineers (SAICE),and serves on several South African Technical Committees for developing/revising specifications, manuals and guidelines for road pavement design. He is currently an editorial board member of the ASTM Journal of Testing and Evaluation, and serves as a technical reviewer for several international journals and conferences.
