This book discusses the impact of different range of velocities (low, high, ballistic and hyper-velocity impact) on composites.
This book discusses the impact of different range of velocities (low, high, ballistic and hyper-velocity impact) on composites. Presented through experimental and numerical analysis, the book goes beyond impact event analysis and also covers the after-impact phenomena, including flexural and compression and damage analysis through destructive and non-destructive evaluations. The analyses presented from either experimental or numerical simulations are composed of micro and macrographs images, illustrations, tables and figures with inclusive discussions and supportive evidences from recent studies on composites. This book also highlights the potential applications of composites through the lens of their impact properties, in different industries such as automotive and defence applications. Generally, this book benefits wider range of readers including the industrial practitioners, researchers, lecturer and students, who are working in the fields related to impact and damage analysis, including the structural health monitoring of composites, either experimentally or numerically.

Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohamed Thariq Hameed Sultan is currently attached with Universiti Putra Malaysia as the Director of UPM Press. He was previously the Head of Biocomposite Technology Laboratory (BIOCOMPOSITE) Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP), UPM Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia. He is also currently appointed as Independent Scientific Advisor to Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre (AMIC) based in Cyberjaya, Selangor, Malaysia. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield, UK. He is a Professional Engineer (PEng) registered under the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Professional Technologist (PTech) registered under the Malaysian Board of Technologists and also a Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK. He has about 10 years of experience in teaching as well as in research. His area of research interests includes hybrid composites, advance materials, structural health monitoring and impact studies. To date, he has published more than 100 International journal papers, published 5 books internationally and received many awards locally and internationally. He was awarded as Leaders in Innovation Fellowship (LIF) by the Royal Academy of Engineering (Raeng), UK, in December 2017, and is also the Honourable Secretary of Malaysian Society of Structural Health Monitoring (MSSHM) based in UPM Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia. Currently, he is also attached to the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) as Chairman in the Engineering Education Technical Division (E2TD). He is also appointed as Panel Evaluator for Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia (EAC) and Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC). Dr. Ain Umaira Binti Md Shah is currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering UPM. She previously affiliated as Post-Doctoral Research Assistant with the Laboratory of Biocomposite Technology, Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP), UPM Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia. She received her Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering with main specialization in composite materials from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2018. She previously studied Aircraft Engineering major in Aircraft Design and Constructions in Moscow Aviation Institute, Moscow, Russia. She has two years experiences in tutoring the Pre-U preparation students for the Russian Programme under Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and continues to be actively involved in committees, conferences, workshops and training programmes organized by various organizations locally and internationally. She has wide experience in hands-on and experimental activities for universities’ research in different areas and has a strong background in composites and materials characterizations as well as non-destructive evaluations (NDE). She is currently co-supervising postgraduate students in research activities and journal publications. Dr. Naheed Saba is currently affiliated with the Laboratory of Biocomposite Technology in Universiti Putra Malaysia. She completed her Ph.D. in Biocomposites Technology from the Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP), Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia, in 2017. She completed Master in Chemistry and also completed Postgraduate Diploma in Environment and Sustainable Development from India. She has published over 40 scientific and engineering articles on advanced composites, edited six books and published more than 20 book chapters. Her research interest areas are nanocellulosic materials, fire retardant materials, natural fibre-reinforced polymer composites, biocomposites, hybrid composites and nanocomposites. She is the recipient of the International Graduate Research Fellowship, UPM, and a reviewer for several international journals such as Cellulose, Constructions and Building Materials, Journal of Materials Research & Technology, BioResources, Carbohydrate Polymers, among others.
