This book comprises select proceedings of the 43rd National Systems Conference on Innovative and Emerging Trends in Engineering Systems (NSC 2019) held at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India. The contents cover latest research in the highly multidisciplinary field of systems engineering, and discusses its various aspects like systems design, dynamics, analysis, modeling and simulation. Some of the topics covered include computing systems, consciousness systems, electrical systems, energy systems, manufacturing systems, mechanical systems, literary systems, social systems, and quantum and nano systems. Given the scope of the contents, this book will be useful for researchers and professionals from diverse engineering and management background.
Dr. V. Huzur Saran is currently Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee with a teaching and research experience of more than 30 years. He completed his B.Sc. Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) from Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra in 1984, M. E. (Machine Design) from IIT Roorkee in 1987 and Ph.D. degree from IIT Roorkee in 2004. He has published over 70 research papers in reputed refereed international journals and conferences. He has organised several international and national conferences, including the NSC 2019 and has also delivered many invited talks in India and abroad. His research interests include vehicle dynamics, ergonomics, human response to vibrations and fault diagnosis and prognosis of roller bearings. He is member of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, life member of The Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Society for Mechanical Engineers and Systems Society of India.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar Mishra is Professor in Department of Electrical Engineering, Institute of Technology, BHU, Varanasi. He is also heading Department of Humanistic Studies, Institute of Technology, BHU, Varanasi since 2015. He was awarded Ph.D. in March 2005 from Institute of Technology, BHU Varanasi, India. He did his M.Tech. in Engineering Systems and B.Sc. (Electrical Engineering) in 1997 and 1995, respectively from DEI Dayalbagh, Agra, India. His fields of interest include systems engineering, power system, and applications of computational intelligence in power systems. He has presented papers in reputed conferences and has published papers in reputed journals such as IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, International Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems, International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, and Electric Power Components and Systems. An optimization algorithm, EBO with CMAR (EBO_with_CMAR), proposed by his team in a paper entitled 'Improving the local search capability of Effective Butterfly Optimizer using Covariance Matrix Adapted Retreat phase' was ranked first in a competition on real-parameter bound-constrained single objective optimization at IEEE Congress in Evolutionary Computation (CEC-2017), Spain. He is Member of IEEE, Institution of Engineers (India), and Life Member of ISTE and Systems Society of India.
