Defines and demonstrates the role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the evaluation and management of patients with epilepsy. Brain abnormalities due to lobar, hemispheric and diffuse epileptic disorders are highlighted, and emerging MRI techniques are examined.
This volume defines and demonstrates the role of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the evaluation and management of patients with epilepsy. It seeks to provide neurologists, neurosurgeons, and radiologists with the information necessary to optimize the MR investigation of these patients and interpret and apply the findings obtained in MR studies. Illustrated chapters highlight the essential features of brain anatomy seen on MR images and the brain abnormalities detected on MR images in lobar, hemispheric, and diffuse epilepsy disorders. Close attention is given to the role of magnetic resonance imaging in epilepsy surgery, as well as in developmental disorders and epilepsy.

Part 1 Principles: introduction to epilepsy; principles of MR; principles of neuroimaging in epilepsy. Part 2 Structural neuroimaging in epilepsy: anatomy of the Hippocamons; temporal and frontal lobe epilepsy; occipito-parietal epilepsy; disorders of the cerebral hemispheres; disorders of neuronal migration and organization; neurosurgical applications of MRI in epilepsy; miscellaneous use of MRI in epilepsy. Part 3 New MR techniques and applications in epilepsy: MR spectroscopy in epilepsy; high resolution MR imaging; functional MR imaging; overview of the role of MR in epilepsy.
