Chemistry of 2-Oxoaldehydes and 2-Oxoacids offers complete coverage on 2-oxoaldehydes and 2-oxoacid, which to date have not been covered in a comprehensive manner. Novel reactions related to 2-oxoaldehydes and 2-oxoacids on keto and aldehydic groups (both participating separately or in combination), decarboxylative reactions, spectral analysis and diverse applications are explored. The book is divided into two parts, with the first outlining methods for the preparation and physical properties of 2-Oxoaldehydes, along with the structure, spectral characteristics and reactivity of 2-Oxoaldehydes. The second part covers the preparation and physical properties of 2-Oxoacids and the synthesis of many related reactions.

This book is essential reading for researchers working on these types of reactions in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, natural product chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry.

Atul Kumar completed his BSc from G.G.M. Science College, Jammu, India, and his MSc from the University of Jammu, Jammu, India. After being awarded the CSIR-Junior Research Fellowship, he joined Dr. Qazi Naveed’s research group at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu. His doctoral work is mainly based on “a-Carbonyl Assisted Unconventional Applications of 2-Oxoaldehydes & 2-Oxoesters and Medicinal Chemistry around Ciprofloxacin.” He completed his PhD from the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Delhi in 2019. He also worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Department of Chemistry and Chemical Sciences, Central University of Jammu from 2019 to 2021. At present, he is working as an Institutional Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India. His research interest are the total synthesis of natural products, biologically active scaffolds, and development of novel synthetic transformations. Mr. Javeed Rasool received his BSc (Honours) from Poona College, Pune, India, and his MSc with a specialization in organic chemistry from the University of Pune, Pune, India. He was involved in undergraduate teaching courses for two years and he had previously he developed interest in organic chemistry research while completing his BEd. He joined the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine as a project assistant in 2016. After being awarded the CSIR-Junior Research Fellowship he worked in Dr. Qazi Naveed’s research group at CSIR- Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu, and the doctoral programme in chemical sciences. His current research interests are focused on natural product and medicinal chemistry and development of novel methods in glycochemistry. Qazi Naveed Ahmed obtained his PhD. from Kashmir University under the combined supervision of Dr. H. M. Sampath Kumar and Prof. M. A. Qureshi at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine. His doctoral research was focused on the “Synthesis of Some Biologically Active Compounds and Development of New Synthetic Methodologies.” He completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Paris Sud-XI, Parisa, France, under the CNRS program in the Glycochemistry Division under Prof. David Bonnaffe. In 2012, he obtained a scientific position in the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine Jammu as a Principal Scientist. His current research interests are medicinal chemistry for the development of novel anti-bacterial/anticancer agents, and development of new synthetic methodologies. Affiliations and Expertise
