A detailed treatment of information relating to fluid-oxide interfaces. It outlines methods for quantifying adsorption and desorption of polymeric and non-polymeric solutes at the gas- and solution-oxide interfaces. It also analyzes novel properties of oxide membranes and the synthesis and dissolution of oxide solids.

JAMES A. WINGRAVE is an Assistant Professor, University of Delaware, Newark. The author or coauthor of over 20 technical publications, Dr. Wingrave is an advisory board member of the Journal of Colloid and Interface Science and holds ten United States patents. He received the B.A. degree (1969) in chemistry from Emporia State University, Kansas, and the Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin.

The liquid-metal oxide interface: equilibrium adsorption of non-polymeric molecules; adsorption kinetics of non-polymeric molecules; equilibrium adsorption of polymeric molecules; adsorption kinetics of polymeric molecules; activity and electrostatics; surface complex formation; surface and adsorption bond characterization; dissolution of metal oxides; clay surfaces; non-aqueous liquid-metal oxide interface; graft polymerization on oxide surfaces; polymerization in hemimicelles of oxide surfaces; metal oxide membranes. The vapour-metal oxide interface: adsorption - statistical mechanics (vibrational interactions); adsorption - thermodynamic (uniform interpretations); metal oxide catalysts; metal oxide aerogels.
