Capillary electrophoresis combines the analytical separation technique of classical electrophoresis with the instrumental potential of modern chromatographic detection and automation. It eminently supplements chromatography for the separation of polar and water-soluble substances. The extent of its applications is extremely broad, spanning the range of separation from small cations to the highest molecular weight ionic biopolymers.
