Comprehensive Natural Products III, Third Edition, Seven Volume Set updates and complements the previous two editions, including recent advances in cofactor chemistry, structural diversity of natural products and secondary metabolites, enzymes and enzyme mechanisms and new bioinformatics tools. Natural products research is a dynamic discipline at the intersection of chemistry and biology concerned with isolation, identification, structure elucidation, and chemical characteristics of naturally occurring compounds such as pheromones, carbohydrates, nucleic acids and enzymes. This book reviews the accumulated efforts of chemical and biological research to understand living organisms and their distinctive effects on health and medicine and to stimulate new ideas among the established natural products community.

Editor-in-Chief of the previous edition of Comprehensive Natural Products in 2010 (with Professor Lew Mander, now retired), Hung-Wen (Ben) is a Professor of Medicinal Chemistry, College of Pharmacy, and Professor of Chemistry, College of Natural Sciences, University of Texas as well as the George H. Hitchings Regents Chair in Drug Design. His research lies at the crossroads of chemistry and biology and he is currently working on Enzyme Mechanism and Inhibitor Design, Metabolic Pathway Engineering, and Protein Function Regulation. Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Academy of Microbiology, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, American Chemical Society and former Chair of the American Chemical Society Biological Division. Advisory Board member of the Institute of Chemistry Academia Sinica, Institute of Biological Chemistry Academia Sinica, Genomic Research Center, Academia Sinica, and the Alberta Glycomic Centre and member of the Advisory Committee of the National Health Research Institutes, Institute of Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Research in Taiwan. He’s on the Editorial Board of Chemical Record (Chemical Society of Japan) and Perspectives in Medicinal Chemistry, the Editorial Advisory Board of Letters in Organic Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Journal of Chinese Chemical Society and Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology and an Associate Editor for Organic Letters (ACS). Distinguished Professor Tadhg Begley is Robert A. Welch Foundation Chair and Derek Barton Professor in Chemistry at Texas A&M University. He is currently on sabbatical as Newton Abraham Visiting Professor at Oxford University. Professor Begley’s research is focused on the mechanistic enzymology of complex organic transformations, particularly those found on the vitamin biosynthetic pathways. He also has a strong interest in the development of chemical biology and has helped organize several major conferences and is the co-organizer of the NIH sponsored Young faculty mentoring workshop. He is the recipient of the Merck Faculty Development Award, the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award and the ACS Repligen Award in Chemistry of Biological Processes for outstanding contributions to the understanding of biological processes with particular emphasis on structure, function and mechanism. He is co-author of The Organic Chemistry of Biological Pathways (2005) and the editor of Wiley’s 4-volume Encyclopedia of Chemical Biology, as well as a section editor for the previous editor of Comprehensive Natural Products in 2010. Professor Begley is a member of the editorial boards for Molecular Biosystems, Vitamins and Hormones, Bioorganic Chemistry, Chemical Biology and Drug Design and Journal of Biological Chemistry. He has an h-index of 49.
