This comprehensive volume focuses on recent trends and new technologies used in the management of
reproduction in major farm animals, focusing on both males and females of bovine, equine, and porcine
species. With chapters written by scientists who specialize in their respective topics, the volume
presents a selection of different technologies that have been developed to assure reproductive success
by improving reproductive efficiency, generating germplasm banks, and maintaining genetic diversity in
cattle, horses, and pigs.
In the last decade, reproductive technologies in veterinary medicine have progressed considerably,
providing high profitability to livestock farms. This book provides basic and applied information on the
most used reproductive technologies in bovine, equine, and porcine species for academics, scientists,
and veterinarians. The volume discusses reproductive and postpartum management, reproductive
ultrasound, sperm management, egg retrieval, artificial insemination, embryo transfer, nutrition,
genetics, and certain clinical aspects, such as endocrinology and robustness of reproductive systems.
Veterinary and Experimental Sciences of the Catholic University of Valencia San Vicente Mártir (UCV), Valencia, Spain, where he is also the Director of the UCV Veterinary Farm. He also participates in academic postgraduate activities at the Veterinary Faculty of Murcia University, Spain. He has over 30 years of teaching and research experience. He is the author of eight book chapters and has published over 200 research papers in national and international journals and conference proceedings. His main research interests include animal physiology, physiology and biotechnology of reproduction either in males or females, the study of gametes under in vitro conditions, and the use of ultrasound as a complement to physiological studies and development of applied biotechnologies. Katy Satué, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the CEU-Cardinal Herrera University, Valencia, Spain. She teaches courses in general pathology, integrated in the module of applied bases of the equine veterinary clinic for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of the degree program in veterinary sciences. Her research activity is focused in the field of hematology, biochemistry, immunology, and fundamentally in equine endocrinology in pregnant Spanish purebreed mares. Dr. Satué has participated in 10 research projects and has written two books and 14 book chapters published by international publishing houses related to her research areas. She has written many scientific publications in international journals and has attended many international congresses. Since 2014, she has been responsible for the Clinical Analysis Laboratory of the Veterinary Clinical Hospital of CEU Cardinal Herrera University.
