Containing papers presented at the Seventh International Conference on Computational Modelling of Free and Moving Boundary Problems, this book demonstrates the rapid growth of work in the area by scientists and engineers in both academia and industry.
The modelling of free and moving boundary problems occurs in many different disciplines and proposed solutions come from a variety of perspectives. This book contains most of the papers presented at the Seventh International Conference on Computational Modelling of Free and Moving Boundaries, an interdisciplinary forum where the mathematical bases underlying all these problems were discussed. Some of the most up-to-date research on the solution of problems in which the position of the surface is part of the solution is highlighted. These can only be solved analytically in a few cases and require the development of suitable computational methods that provide accurate solutions. DESCRIPTION : The contributions are divided under the following headings : Boundary Tracking; Fluid Structure Interactions; Flow Through Porous Media; Free Surface Flow; Manufacturing Free Surface Flows; Phase Change; Phase Interface Phenom ena; and Advanced Computational Methods.

Section 1 Boundary tracking: Constructive topological domain modeling for solution of problems with moving boundaries; Moving boundary problems in earth-surface dynamics; A mathematical model that uses an adaptive mesh for predicting scalar transport in a transient incompressible jet; Computational solution of a two-phase moving boundary problem with two moving interfaces in pulsed laser processing of semiconductors; Identification of boundary movement from internal measurements; A moving boundary model for fatigue corrosion cracking; Estimation of non-rigid deformations in the three-dimensional space and time domains in medical images. Section 2 Fluid structure interactions (Special session organised by R.R. Rao & P.R. Schunk): Finite element simulations of fluid-structure interactions via overset meshes and sharp embedded interfacial conditions; A level-set based sharp interface method for three-dimensional incompressible flows with complex moving boundaries; A finite element model for dynamic wetting on flexible solids using arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) mesh motion; GMRES acceleration of subiteration for fluid-structure interactions; Convergence of successive approximation for a free-boundary problem in fluid-structure interaction; Blood damage measures for ventricular assist device modeling; Some characteristics of the interaction between turbulent flows and movable rippled bottom in the river mouth; Renormalization methods and interface problems. Section 3 Flow through porous media: A two dimensional numerical study of viscous fingering in a porous medium; Numerical solution for domain decomposed, heterogeneously modeled seepage problems.
