This book provides a systematic and comprehensive introduction to the neutronics of advanced nuclear systems, covering all key aspects, from the fundamental theories and methodologies to a wide range of advanced nuclear system designs and experiments. It is the first-ever book focusing on the neutronics of advanced nuclear systems in the world.

Compared with traditional nuclear systems, advanced nuclear systems are characterized by more complex geometry and nuclear physics, and pose new challenges in terms of neutronics. Based on the achievements and experiences of the author and his team over the past few decades, the book focuses on the neutronics characteristics of advanced nuclear systems and introduces novel neutron transport methodologies for complex systems, high-fidelity calculation software for nuclear design and safety evaluation, and high-intensity neutron source and technologies for neutronics experiments. At the same time, it describes the development of various neutronics designs for advanced nuclear systems, including neutronics design for ITER, CLEAR and FDS series reactors. The book not only summarizes the progress and achievements of the author's research work, but also highlights the latest advances and investigates the forefront of the field and the road ahead.

Prof. Yican Wu is the director general of the Institute of Nuclear Energy Safety Technology (INEST) at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the director of the Key Laboratory of Neutronics and Radiation Safety, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has been working on the theory, modeling, investigation, design, and analysis of advanced nuclear systems since the 1990s and he has proposed and developed several advanced neutronics methods, making a significant contribution to in advanced nuclear systems. Prof. Yican Wu has published more than 400 scientific papers in international conferences and academic journals such as Nature Energy, Nuclear Fusion, and the Journal of Nuclear Materials, eight of which have been included in 'Essential Science Indicators (ESI) - Highly Cited Papers (last 10 years)'. Based on his achievements, Prof. Yican Wu has won more than 10 important science and technology awards, including the American Nuclear Society Outstanding Achievement Award (2018), European Prize for Innovation in Fusion (SOFT Innovation Prize) (2018), National Natural Science Award (2016), and the Science and Technology Award for National Energy (2011).

Prof. Yican Wu holds a number of important positions and is an expert member of domestic and international organizations, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), International Energy Agency (IEA), Generation-IV International Forum (GIF), International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) International Organization, Ministry of Science and Technology of China, National Energy Bureau, Chinese Nuclear Society and China Society of Radiation Protection, and the American Nuclear Society (ANS). He is currently serving as the Executive Committee (ExCo) Chair of the IEA Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP) on Environmental, Safety and Economic Aspects of Fusion Power (ESEFP), and ExCo Vice Chair of IEA TCP on Nuclear Technology of Fusion Reactor (NTFR). He is also a member of the Working Group on Licensing for Design Review of ITER International Organization and an expert on the board of directors for Fusion Power Associates.
