This textbook provides a complete introduction to Hydrogeology. It is a comprehensive reference for earth science professionals involved in groundwater exploitation as well as for geotechnical engineers. This English translation of the German textbook "Hydrogeologie" by Hölting & Coldewey, which has been published in its 8th edition, provides insights into the sources and reservoirs of groundwater, the dynamics of fluid flow, and the physical and chemical composition of groundwater. It also gives an overview about the economic value of groundwater and its exploitation and use. A consistent use of the internationally accepted SI units as well as the formula symbols in the text contributes to the understandability.

Professor Bernward Hölting was formerly the leading Director of Geology for the Hessian Regional Authorities and an associate lecturer at the University of Marburg. In 1982 he was appointed an honorary professor. From 1980 until 1987 he headed the Department of Hydrogeology at the German Geological Society. He has worked in numerous expert committees. Professor Wilhelm G. Coldewey taught Applied Geology at the Westfalian Wilhelm's University in Munster from 1999 until 2009. In the period between 1970 and 1999 he held a leading position in the company "German Montan Technology Ltd." based in Essen. He was an associate lecturer at the Ruhr University in Bochum and at the Technical University in Clausthal, in 1993 he was appointed an honorary professor. Professor Coldewey was the editor of the DMT reports in the fields of research and development and is an associate editor of various professional journals and a valued colleague in numerous national and international boards.
