Provides a detailed overview the procedures involved in computational fluid dynamics, reviewing the applications of CDF to advances in transportation, construction, biomedical engineering, turbines and centrifuges design, as well as the modelling of processes that can impact environments such as pollutant emissions, water treatment, powder handling and degradation of organic materials.
The same basic procedures are applied in all Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) implementations.
Pre-processing - this procedure is prior to computational simulation and establishes the physical conditions (geometry definition), mesh size (volume division), hydrodynamic models and boundary conditions.
Simulation - this is the actual computational experiment. It includes numerical discretization methods, turbulence models, linear algebraic equation systems and other scientific libraries.
Post-processing - this is the final procedure when the computations are complete. This involves analysis and visualization of the resulting solution. Usually, the information is displayed in color graphics and, sometimes, the information is animated to show physical changes in time, follow a fluid particle or a streamline.
First, the book overviews these aforementioned procedures in some detail. Next, it reviews the applications CDF to the advances in transportation, construction, biomedical engineering, turbines and centrifuges design, as well as the modeling of processes that can impact environments such as pollutant emissions, water treatment, powder handling and degradation of organic materials. This book is divided into the following 5 sections:
Section 1 - CFD applications in the designing, optimization and testing of transportation.
Section 2 - CFD applications to cardiovascular hemodynamics and biomimetics.
Section 3 - CFD applications to architecture design and optimization in terms of energy consumption, ventilation and cooling systems.
Section 4 - CFD Applied to the designing and optimization of turbines and centrifuges
Section 5 - CFD applications to the study of combustion, sedimentation, granulation, oxidation processes in manufacturing engineering.
The same basic procedures are applied in all Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) implementations.

Olga Moreira obtained her Ph.D. in Astrophysics from the University of Liege (Belgium) in 2010, her BSc. in Physics and Applied Mathematics from the University of Porto (Portugal). Her post-graduate travels and international collaborations with the European Space Agency (ESA) and European Southern Observatory (ESO) led to great personal and professional growth as a scientist. Currently, she is working as an independent researcher, technical writer, and editor in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics.
