Bacterial Identification and Drug Susceptibility Patterns in Pregnant and Non Pregnant UTI Patients (eBook)
VI, 78 Seiten
Springer Singapore (Verlag)
978-981-10-4750-3 (ISBN)
This book provides a review of essential research on urinary tract infections (UTIs), as well as a broader perspective on methodologies adopted for the isolation and identification of the bacteria from urine samples of pregnant and non-pregnant women on the basis of their cultural, morphological and biochemical characteristics. The identification is extended to the strain level by means of molecular identification involving BLAST as a bioinformatics tool. The book also addresses the roles of various other bioinformatics tools for tracing the phylogenetic tree and conservation studies among the bacteriocin of the identified bacteria. Lastly, it assesses the antibiotics resistance patterns of these isolates.
Ms. Syeda Sograh Fatima is a Lecturer at the College of Medicine, Princess Nourah Bint Abdul Rahman University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She has also served as a Lecturer for post-graduate students in India, and later worked at the Medical College, Hail University, Saudi Arabia. She has been the Academic Coordinator for curriculum planning for clinical years and an Academic Advisor for medical students. She is currently serving as a member of the Quality & Development Committee and also the Co-Chair for Nervous System Block. She has published many papers in international journals, primarily in her area of interest, microbiology.
Dr. Eman Al Mussaed is an Assistant Professor at the College of Medicine, Princess Nourah Bint Abdul Rahman University, where she also serves as the Vice Dean of Educational and Academic Affairs. Prior to that she was engaged in teaching Pathology in the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing and other Health Colleges at Princess Nourah University. She was one of the founders of the College of Medicine. This book provides a review of essential research on urinary tract infections (UTIs), as well as a broader perspective on methodologies adopted for the isolation and identification of the bacteria from urine samples of pregnant and non-pregnant women on the basis of their cultural, morphological and biochemical characteristics.
