The book covers the latest updates in the application of infrared to biomedical sciences, a non-invasive, contactless, safe and easy approach imaging of skin and tissue temperatures. Its diagnostic procedure allows practitioners to identify the locations of abnormal chemical and blood vessel activity such as angiogenesis in body tissue.

Its non-invasive approach works by applying the technology of the infrared camera and state-of-the-art software, where high-resolution digital infrared imaging technology benefits highly from enhanced image production, standardized image interpretation protocols, computerized comparison and storage, and sophisticated image enhancement and analysis.

The book contains contributions from global prominent scientists in the area of infrared applications in biomedical studies. The target audience includes academics, practitioners, clinicians and students working in the area of infrared imaging in biomedicine.

Dr. Eddie Ng is an Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, NTU. He has published over 370 papers in SCI-IF international journals (255), international conference proceedings (117), textbook chapters (83) and others (22). He has co-edited 10 books and also co-authored a text book: 'Compressor Instability with Integral Methods' published by Springer (2007).
He is the Editor-in-Chief (lead) for the ISI Journal of Mechanics in Medicine and Biology; Founding Editor-in-Chief for the ISI indexed Journal of Medical Imaging and Health Informatics; Strategy Assoc. Editor-in-Chief for World Journal of Clinical Oncology; associate editor of eight referred international journals and guest editor for the Int. Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine & Int. Journal of Medical Systems. His main area of research is thermal imaging, human physiology, biomedical engineering; computational turbomachinery aerodynamics; micro-scale cooling problems; computational fluid dynamics & numerical heat transfer. His latest work on human eye biomechanics and burn injury thermal physics is being used in the space suits for intense thermal loading in planetary missions.
He is an invited keynotes speaker for more than 15 international scientific conferences/workshops. He is also active in offering consulting services and is a fellow of SAF-NTU Academy. He is also presently serving as panel member for the Biomedical Standards Committee, Singapore. The affable adjunct NUH scientist has a special interest in infrared (IR) physics & technology and has contributed greatly to research on IR, in particular on application of IR to biomedical sciences. As the co-inventor of 3 USA patents on multiple analytical software classifier programs to identify the different stages of breast cancer development using thermal data (iTBra) with Lifeline's First Warning SystemTM, he further explores the use of IR in the field of ophthalmology for early detection of health abnormality. Those 3 patents have been licensed by Cyrcadia Health, Inc. for the commercialisation and product roll-out of iTBra upon the final approval (phase 2) of FDA. This iTBra was granted for the CE Mark and on-going for phase 2 clinical validating with FDA (confident to be approved soon) and market entry of the inventions in Asia (India, SEA) and select European markets.
Mahnaz Etehad Tavakol received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, in 1987, and her M.S. in Applied Mathematics from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, in 1989. She obtained her Ph.D. from Isfahan University of Technology, Iran, in April 2011. She has lectured some courses at Isfahan University of Technology and Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, and conducted 6 projects as well. She is the first author of 6 chapters in 4 books, and 11 articles in ISI journals. She is also the associate editor of Journal of Medical Imaging and Health Informatics. She is presently a researcher at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. Her research interests include application of thermal infrared imaging in medicine, bio signal processing, and system biology.
