This book is written by Dr. Hui Zhou as a Ph.D. dissertation in Tsinghua University, China. It establishes the thermochemical characteristics of model compounds in combustible solid waste (CSW), and delineates the influence of different factors on the thermochemical characteristics and the influence interactions between model components have on the thermochemical characteristics. The works provide a theoretical basis for the clean and high-efficiency utilization of CSW as well as the basic knowledge for further understanding the thermochemical conversion mechanisms of complex fuels. Researchers and engineers in the field of thermal engineering and environmental engineering can benefit from the book.

Dr. Hui Zhou is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering, Columbia University. He received his doctoral degree and bachelor degree from the Department of Thermal Engineering, Tsinghua University, China, respectively in 2015 and 2010. He also holds a minor degree in Computer Science from Tsinghua University. From November 2013 to May 2014, he was a visiting student of the University of Leeds, UK. His research interests include thermochemical conversion (pyrolysis/gasification) of municipal solid waste and biomass and hydrogen generation from renewable sources. He has published more than 15 research articles as the first author and co-authored more than 10 research articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is a reviewer of the Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis and Waste and Wood Valorization. He has won the National Scholarship of China in 2014 ranking first among all the candidates in the department, Outstanding Student Adviser Award in 2014, and First-Class Scholarship for Outstanding Overall Performance in 2013 at Tsinghua University. He is a Member of the Air and Waste Management Association and the Associate Member of Royal Society of Chemistry.
