For academic and industrial inorganic and organic chemists, this book is part of a serial which addresses all aspects of organometallic chemistry. Topics discussed include the use of water-soluble ligands in homogeneous catalysis, and carbon-oxygen bond activation by transition metal complexes.
This serial contains authoritative reviews addressing all aspects of organometallic chemistry, a field that has expanded enormously since the publication of Volume 1 in 1964. Almost all branches of chemistry now interface with organometallic chemistry - the study of compounds containing carbon-metal bonds. Organometallic compounds range from species so reactive they have only a transient existence at ambient temperatures to those thermally stable. They are used extensively in the synthesis of useful compounds on both small and large scales. Industrial processes involving plastics, polymers, electronic meterials, and pharmaceuticals all depend on advances in organometallic chemistry. In basic research, organometallics have contributed "inter alia" to: metal cluster chemistry; surface chemistry; the stabilization of highly reactive species by metal co-ordination; chiral syntheses; and the formation of multiple bonds between carbon and the other elements, and between the elements themselves.

Organometallic chemistry of palladium and platinum with poly(pyrazol-1-yl)alkanes and poly(pyrazol-1-yl)borates, P.K. Byers et al; organometallic chemistry of the N=N group, H. Kisch and P. Holzmeier; carbon-oxygen bond activation by transition metal complexes, A. Yamamoto; charge-transfer complexes of organosilicon compounds, V.F. Traven and S. Yu. Shapakin; structure, colour, and chemistry of pentaaryl bismuth compounds, K. Seppelt; use of water-soluble ligands in homogeneous catalysis, P. Kalck and F. Monteil; slowed tripodal rotation in arene-chromium complexes - steric and electronic barriers, M.J. McGlinchey.
