This book offers readers an introduction to the current status of nanoparticles and other nanomaterials that have potential applications in theranostics. Above all, it highlights the diagnostic and therapeutic applications of metallic (e.g. Au, Ag), semiconducting quantum dots (e.g. CdSe, CdTe), magnetic (e.g. Fe3O4, FePt, Co), and multifunctional (combination of two or three) nanoparticles.

Dr Subramanian Tamil Selvan is a Research Scientist at the A*STAR Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) since September 2008. He also holds an Adjunct Associate Professorship with the Department of Bioengineering, National University of Singapore. Dr. Selvan is the recipient of the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt (Germany) and JSPS (Japan) fellowships. He serves as an Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reports. His research interests cover a broad spectrum which include the synthesis of metal, magnetic, semiconducting and multifunctional nanoparticles for energy and theranostics applications. He is an author of over 50 publications and 3 invited book chapters. He has over 2250 citations and a h-index of 22. To his credit, he has 2 granted U.S. patents and 10 filed patent applications.
Dr. Narayanan Karthikeyan is a Senior Research Scientist at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology since 2006. He worked in Taiwan and USA before his current appointment at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology. His research interests are in the area of Cell and Tissue Engineering, specifically on stem cell differentiation and large scale expansion of stem cells for therapeutic use; and drug and gene delivery systems for therapeutic and imaging various pathological conditions.  He is an author of over 30 publications and holds 3 patents.
