This new edition of a classic text in geometrical and physical optics continues the tradition of presenting the fundamental laws of optics in a clear, accessible form, and informing the student of the latest technological advances in the science.
Since the first appearance of "Optics" in 1934 successive new editions have ensured its place as the formost basic textbook on geometrical and physical optics. In this 10th edition Professor Freeman has succeeded admirably, by a constant awareness of the need to speak directly and clearly to the student and by using two-colour diagrams to highlight key concepts, in making this notoriously difficult subject both understandable and relevant. The fundamental laws of optics are in themselves immutable but there is constant change in the methods and applications of the instruments employed in our understanding of light and its properties. These new developments have been incorporated into the text of this edition, making it substantially different from its predecessors.
